Gusto
Etwas ist nach meinem (seinem) Gusto, d.h. nach meinem (seinem) Geschmack. Bis ins 18. Jahrhundert hinein war für den aus dem Italienischen entlehnten Begriff fast ausschließlich das Wort ›Gust‹ bekannt. Später, im 18. Jahrhundert, wurde es weitgehend durch ›Gusto‹ verdrängt, das vor allem in der Wendung ›nach Gusto‹, im Sinne von ›Belieben‹, ›Ermessen‹ in zahlreichen literarischen Zeugnissen begegnet. So heißt es z.B.: »... recht nach gusto auszurasten« (J. von Neiner: ›Tandlmärckt‹ [1734], 275). Im Sinne einer subjektiven Empfindung kommt die Wendung auch bei anderen Autoren des öfteren vor, so z.B. bei S.J. Apinus (›Glossarium novum‹ [1728], 260): »es ist nicht nach meinem gusto«, des weiteren bei F. Callenbach, bei dem es heißt (›Wurmatica Wurmland ...‹ [1714], 67): »das wäre nach meinem gusto, es stehet auch besser«. Auch Goethe verwendet noch den italienischen Begriff:
   man wählt sich die Kleider
   nach Gusto den Schneider.
Später wurde Gusto dann durch den deutschen Ausdruck ›Geschmack‹ ersetzt, wie er auch in der heute noch gebräuchlichen Redensart ›Das ist ganz nach meinem Geschmack‹ vorkommt. Dagegen hat sich das Wort ›Gust‹ in der Schweiz bis in die jüngste Zeit hinein erhalten, Geschmack.
